1. What is On the Danforth?On the Danforth is a 32-page print magazine published biannually in Toronto, Ontario. It is written, edited, and designed by the Book and Magazine Publishing students at Centennial College.
2. So it’s like a class project?One might call it a class project, because the magazine is the result of a semester of collaboration between the students, but it is also a “real” magazine–with real editorial, real advertising, and real readers.
3. Who are these real readers?On the Danforth’s readers are people who live and work on Danforth Ave., the high street in the heart of Greektown in Toronto. They are interested in entertainment, issues that affect the area, the best places to eat and drink in the neighbourhood, and how they can get more involved in their community.
4. Where is On the Danforth circulated?OTD is distributed by The Mirror to households within an area in East York, the perimeters of which are Gerrard St., Broadview Ave., O’Connor Ave., and Coxwell Ave. The magazine is also distributed to businesses on Danforth Ave. so that they may display them and give them away to their customers. It is also distributed by the Book and Magazine Publishing students at the Centennial College booth at Taste of the Danforth, an event which attracts over 1 million people in mid-August every summer.
5. How can I get involved with On the Danforth? You can get involved with OTD in several ways. You could enroll in the Book and Magazine Publishing program, which is a 1-year post-graduate program conducted at the Creative Communications campus of Centennial College. You could advertise with OTD and help support this valuable community magazine as well as get attention for your business from its many readers. Lastly, if you are a Danforth business or personality, and a writer from OTD contacts you about writing a story on your business or person, you can oblige an interview and possibly see your business or yourself featured in a future issue of OTD.
